Priorities
Information Society

Slovenia is conscious of the importance of global megatrends in the areas of politics, social care, the economy and environmental protection. Slovenia sees the information society as the intersection point of Europe's development, encompassing within it mutual communication, intergenerational harmony, a knowledge-based society, stable growth, development, and a vision for all generations.

Information and communication technologies, being the cornerstone of the information society, promote a competitive and open economy and contribute to raising the quality of life. For this reason, Slovenia will concentrate its efforts on evaluation of the i2010 strategic framework, which is one of the key elements of the renewed Lisbon partnership for growth and employment. The European Commission will draft an interim report on i2010 to serve as a basis for upgrading the established policies. To support the evaluation of this strategic framework, a high-level conference will be organised to highlight the issues of the perspective of pan-European services, the user aspect and the future of the Internet. Slovenia will draft conclusions of the EU Council for a more efficient and speedy implementation of the i2010 initiative.

To provide safe information networks, Slovenia will pay much attention to establishing an appropriate legislative framework to promote activities carried out by the European Network and Information Security Agency. Equally, Slovenia will endeavour for the timely adoption of a legal framework for further implementation of the Safe Internet Programme.

During the course of its Presidency, Slovenia will promote services such as e-health and e-government, as well as innovative content in the information society. In this context, we will promote exchange of good practices within EU and with other partner countries. We will support the EUROMED Ministerial Conference on the Information Society, to be held in Egypt in February 2008. Slovenia's goal is to establish a Euro-Mediterranean research area and to enhance economic cooperation among the countries. At the same time, our country will monitor implementation of the agreements adopted at the World Summit on the Information Society.
